Tell us about yourself in general (outside of the hobby e.g. childhood, education, profession etc.?)
Mr. Habib: Joined Habib Bank Limited (family owned bank) at the age of 15 and worked for this Bank till nationalization of Banks in Pakistan in 1974. Thereafter joined Habib Bank AG Zurich (family owned Bank incorporated in Switzerland) and presently I am the president of the Hanbib Bank AG Zurich. Education: No proper education, since I joined the Bank at the age of 15. Profession: Banker.
What made you come into this hobby, when and how did you start?
Mr. Habib: During world war II, at that time I was very young, about 7 years of age when by chance I met 3 American pilots in Bombay and they were later on invited by my father to our house for dinner where they explain in detail their mission of their flight and they were fighting against Japan at Pacific theater of the war. They were flying P40 War Hawk fighters. At such young age I was very impressed and I wanted to become a pilot. As luck would have it, only a few days later I saw somebody in Bombay flying a rubber powered model Aeroplane. That was it that I got involved in this hobby. What do you enjoy the most in this hobby? is it designing, building or flying?
Mr. Habib: This is very difficult choice because I enjoy designing, building and flying immensely. I think flying would take a slim lead over the other two. Any interesting story that you want to share with rcpak.com users?
Mr. Habib: Yes, one day I received an invitation, I think in 1954, to take part in All Pakistan Aeromodelling competition organized by Aeromodelling Club of Lahore. I took part and luckily won several trophies in different categories and took a first place in the main event. This was again repeated in the 2nd and 3rd year. The same performance was repeated when Pakistan Aeromodelling Association event was held in Karachi. My father then encouraged rather insisted that I take part in World Championship, where luckily I gained an equal first position with the pilots of America, Russia and Sweden. How many aircrafts/models have you bought/built?
Mr. Habib: Honestly speaking, I don't remember or know the number of model Aircrafts that I bought or built (it could be approx. 175) that are spread over the entire spectrum of this wonderful hobby right from micro film indoor free flight and radio controlled, right up to jet flying approximately 170 miles per hour.
